Frankfurt am Main/Germany – The German parliamentary elections will be held on September 26th this year. The German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) has already addressed its industrial policy demands to politicians: Accordingly, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in Germany expects the new federal government to set the course in ten key policy areas that will advance the performance and research level of Germany's third-largest industry. In its current policy brief, the VCI has outlined how framework conditions should be improved and which measures should be taken in the next legislative period to promote, rather than hinder, the industry's future viability.
As a strong industrial country with competitive production sites, Germany is in a good starting position to deal with the consequences of the corona crisis, emphasizes VCI President Christian Kullmann. This position must be expanded and strengthened, he added. "That is why it is now important to highlight the advantages, prerequisites and concrete proposals for optimal production conditions. As the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, we are clearly stating what we need - and what benefits Germany. The election campaign offers the chance to discuss priorities anew in order to shape a good future for Germany."
In the VCI's view, the ten priority measures for a strong industrial location include:
• Making energy greener and cheaper,
• Driving progress through innovation,
• Strengthening the pharmaceutical industry,
• Modernizing approval procedures and making them legally secure,
• Strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises by reducing bureaucracy,
• Use the Green Deal and the EU chemicals strategy for competitiveness,
• Improve digitization and infrastructure,
• Ensure high-quality food with modern agriculture,
• Advocate free trade, and
• Stand up to tax competition
