The law gives the lieutenant governor, who represents the central government, more power over the elected government. President approves new law to give more powers to the central government in the day-to-day affairs of the delhi Government. Opposition parties, including the congress, and the aam aadmi party (AAP) walked out of the rajya sabha on wednesday after the rajya sabha passed the bill despite protests. Since coming to power in 2013, the aam aadmi party has been at loggerheads with the lieutenant governor. In this case, the new law is a major setback for the delhi government. It is noteworthy that the move comes at a time when the kejriwal government is giving a lot of support to the farmers' strike in Delhi.

The law came into force on sunday after President ramnath kovind approved it. From then on, the central government will decide whether the law will come into force. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections. Opposition groups called for the bill to be referred to a select committee, but the government refused. After two days of commotion, the bill was passed unanimously in the Rajya Sabha. While 83 members of the house approved the bill, 45 opposed it. Opposition parties withdrew and the delhi government protested. And Presidential approval of the law.

The new law stipulates that all executive actions of the delhi government must be approved by the Lieutenant Governor. Most opposition parties, including the congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, trinamool congress, shiv sena, congress PARTY' target='_blank' title='ysr congress-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>ysr congress, and Akali Dal, opposed the bill. The delhi government has repeatedly accused the central government of constantly using the lieutenant governor in its activities. Opposition parties have stated they will not run for office until the new governor is elected. But the law was passed in the rajya sabha as well.
