A 7-year-old Bonteheuwel girl was killed when someone who drove her uncle's taxi reversed over her.
Zahrah Conlan was playing behind the taxi on Monday when the driver reversed over her in Boekenhout Street. She died in hospital.
"A culpable homicide case has been opened for investigation by Bishop Lavis police after a 7-year-old girl was taken to hospital where she died due to her injuries," police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said.
Rwexana added that a 33-year-old man had been arrested.
On Tuesday morning, ward councillor Angus McKenzie visited Conlan's family and school, Arcadia Primary School.
"My heart broke in a million pieces to see the grief, pain, and shock of her fellow classmates and teacher," McKenzie said.
He said trauma councillors would offer support to pupils and staff. The child's family will also receive counselling and support.
The child will be buried according to Muslim rites on Tuesday.
