BJP chief J P Nadda, Smriti Irani and Rahul Gandhi campaigns for second phase in Assam

Guwahati, Mar 30 (UNI) On the last day of the campaign for the second phase of elections in Assam, BJP chief JP Nadda, Union Minister Smriti Irani, Congress's Rahul Gandhi, addressed several rallies in key constituencies going to polls on Thursday.



BJP President JP Nadda addressed three rallies at Kaithalkuchi under Dharmapur constituency in Nalbari district, Bilasipara (East) in Goalpara district and at Rani under West Guwahati constituency in Kamrup (Metro) district on Tuesday.



However, Rahul Gandhi’s rallies were cut short by inclement weather as his chartered plane could not land in Silchar airport due to extreme weather.



A planned rally in Silchar and Haflong constituency were postponed due to incessant rains. However, Mr Gandhi addressed people through video conference.



Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani also addressed three campaign rallies at Borbhag under Borkhetry constituency, at Mahamaya field under Gauripur constituency and at Raja PrabhatChandra Barua field under Dhubri constituency.



While Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal addressed four rallies, Himanta Biswa Sarma address seven rallies on the last day of campaigning for the second phase of polls in the state.



Phase one of the election held in 47 constituencies was held on March 27 and 79.93 per cent voter turnout was recorded. The second phase of assembly polls for 39 seats will be held on April 1.
