If you say rap is not music or “real” music then the same logic has to apply to rock music as well (not the instrument part, but the vocals).
People say rap is not music but more like poetry because the rappers are just “saying” the lyrics and not performing them in the traditional “singing” way.
But if you listen to rock music a lot of the times in the songs the lyrics are performed in the same way as rap (lyrics are just spoken normally) rather than the traditional “singing” way.
Also the topics of the songs in both these genres don’t really differ, it’s mostly about degeneracy (drugs, money, women, etc), but rap gets called out for not being “real music”.
Is this because of the racial element to this? Because rock is mostly created/listened to by white people and rap is mostly created/listened to by blacks?

Imagine listening to low iq high school dropouts recite poetry, waxing lyrical about injustice n **** while perpetuating violence or rhyming about absolute nonsense such as partying with Jackie chan (Chinese) in Japan versus a maestro on an instrument genuinely creating something.
Lol at rapmaxxers, particularly white bois over the age of 20.

One requires the ability to play instruments, talent, lots of $$$ on gear/production
The other requires your homie to spin up some beats for you to mumble about fcking bishes. You ever been to a live rap concert? They don't even edit their own vocals out of the backtrack, they just spit a few lines over themselves on the track.@kadoobiedo

I disagree, Hip hop is the most lyrically diverse genre, you want to rap about turtles? Fine. Pretend you’re a super hero? Fine. Christmas raps? Fine. Pineapple on pizza? Do it.
STRONG irony.
This is a generalisation, see track below for proof. You might even agree with some of the lyrics

Producing beats takes skill. Dre made his fame being one of the goats, Kanye is one of the best also. You can downgrade rock to some kids playing off tempo and rehashing chords in their garage too.
Jay Z does not do this. His shows are legit him rapping to his instrumentals.
This goes with the above. Studio time isn’t cheap, and the instrumental portion of a song can make it or break it. Some rappers do injustice to great beats, but that applies to all music.
Dumb take. You can’t generalize an entire genre that can be subdivided further. If you don’t know rap, just say that.Lurking since '05 - the days of VS gorilla/cloud/goku threads

This
There is so much nuance to all genres that you can't just put everything in the same box. We use genre classifications just for the sake of simplicity.
Nas is called rap
And whatever mumble rapper is popular that week is also called rap
