Hyderabad: In a surprising move, the BJP decided to appoint Dr. Panugothu Ravi Kumar to present for by-election for Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly.
The announcement came after a lot of discussion by the party leadership, as the deadline for submitting nominations is Tuesday. The senior party leaders held talks on Monday to finalize the candidate after considering several factors.
Although the names of two other BJP leaders, K Niveditha Reddy and K Anjaiah Yadav, have been circulating in party circles over the past few days, the leadership announced Ravi Kumar’s name on Monday night.
While the TRS nominated the late Nomula Narasimaiah’s son Bhagath Kumar for the vote, and Congress gave the ticket to K Jana Reddy, the BJP leadership decided at the last minute to appoint Ravi Kumar, an ST, an assistant civic surgeon currently operating a hospital in Nagarjuna Sagar.
