PAX organisers ReedPop and Penny Arcade have announced that PAX East 2021 has been cancelled.
“In light of ongoing public health concerns, ReedPop and Penny Arcade will not hold PAX East this year,” the companies said in a statement.
As an alternative, another PAX Online convention will be held July 15-18, and an Indie Showcase will take place between now and then. ReedPop promise further details will be made available soon.
“We will only move forward with a live PAX once we are confident the show will be safe for everyone,” the statement reads. It states that both ReedPop and Penny Arcade are “cautiously optimistic” that it will be adequately safe to hold PAX West and PAX Unplugged as live events, on September 3-6 and December 10-12, respectively.
While quarantine measures and vaccination roll-out plans remain a work in progress, it’s likely that many video game events will be cancelled again in 2021, or at least moved into the digital space. ESA has already confirmed that E3 2021 will be a digital event this year.
