J P Nadda and Amit Shah express anguish over the death of Shova Majumdar

Kolkata, Mar 29 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday expressed anguish over the death of Shova Majumdar, the 85-year-old mother of BJP leader Gopal Majumdar, who was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Nimta area of North 24 Parganas district.

Majumdar died this morning.

Shova and her son, Gopal Majumdar, were assaulted in the North Dumdum area, which fell under Nimta police station jurisdiction.

The cause of death was not known immediately.

BJP president JP Nadda along with Union Home minister Amit Shah said that "pain & wounds of her family” will haunt Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for long.

Taking to his tweeter handle, Mr Nadda said, "May God comfort the soul of Nimta's aged mother Shova Mazumdar ji. Due to her son, Gopal Majumdar, being a BJP activist, she had to pay with her life. Her sacrifice will be remembered forever. She was also mother of Bengal, daughter of Bengal. The BJP always fights for security of mothers and daughters."

Union Home Minister Mr Shah condoled her death and expressed anguish.

“Anguished over the demise of Bengal’s daughter Shova Majumdar ji, who was brutally beaten by TMC goons. The pain and wounds of her family will haunt Mamata didi for long,” Mr Shah tweeted.

Shah also posted a photo of her funeral ceremony and wrote, “Bengal will fight for a violence-free tomorrow, Bengal will fight for a safer state for our sisters and mothers.”

However, the TMC senior leader and Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said, “There was an altercation between a BJP worker, Gopal Majumdar, and a TMC supporter in front of Gopal's house, a month ago. Gopal fell down and his mother got agitated thinking that her son was being attacked and in the process, she also fell down.”
