Kerala reports 1,549 new COVID cases, 1,897 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 29 (UNI) Kerala on Monday reported 1,549 new cases of COVID-19, while 1,897 people also recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
"In the last 24 hours, COVID was detected in two persons who recently came to Kerala from the UK (total 111 now) and their samples have been sent to NIV, Pune for further testing. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified virus," the minister said in a press release here this evening.
Meanwhile, 11 recent deaths were reported on Monday due to COVID, taking the death toll in the state to 4,590.
The minister said 37,337 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 4.14 %. Till now, a total of 1,30,50,880 samples have been sent for testing. A total 357 places are currently earmarked as hotspots in the state.
