New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that coming generations will be proud of the discipline showcased by the people of the country during the 'Janata' Curfew on March 22, 2020, just three days before the nationwide lockdown was imposed to arrest the pandemic novel coronavirus.
"It was in March last year that the nation for the first time heard the word 'Janata' Curfew. But see the experience of the great power of this great country, the 'Janata' curfew became a surprise for the whole world. It was an unprecedented example of discipline showcased by people that generations to come will surely be proud about," the Prime Minister said in his 75th monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, adding that from very early on, the people of India put up a spirited fight against COVID-19.
Referring to the clapping and banging of utensils last year to thank the Corona warriors, Mr Modi said the people of India have no idea what impact it had on the frontline warriors. "You have no idea how much that thing touched the heart of the Corona Warriors, and this is why, they worked tirelessly, non-stop for the whole year."
Notably, On March 22 last year, the Prime Minister had called on Indians to come to their windows and balconies at 1700 to display their support for healthcare workers. "We will clap our hands, beat our plates, ring our bells to boost their morale and salute their service," he had said then.
Speaking on the COVID vaccination, Mr Modi said that last year at this time the question was whether there would be a vaccine for COVID-19 and by when would it be rolled out. "Today, the world's largest vaccination drive is underway in India," the PM averred.
As many as 5,94,92,824 vaccine doses of COVID vaccine have been administered so far, with 13,83,051 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
