Imagine having an advanced degree in finance from a top university but getting mogged by some guy with barely any education takes your job because he just has good gut instincts on which stocks and companies to buy. Think about how all those well educated scientist were, and then some guy that couldn't even comb his hair and was regarded as retarded most of his life comes and changes the world (Einstein)
All over the country, lackluster, semi dumb but good at school idiots get themselves in massive debt thinking that if they pay enough, and go to the right school, they will be the best, and then they end up not being able to get or keep a good job in which they studied. It's talent.

I also wrestled in HS (though I was nothing special). I 100% agree with you. Didnt like BJJ all that much.
I would LOVE to find a wrestling camp/club/gym but they basically dont exist for adults outside of some of it being folded into a general MMA gym. I actually think Greco-Roman/Freestyle might even be better for self defense than BJJ provided you are physically fit.Donald J Trump is the legitimate President of the United States.

This discussion was had awhile ago (and I know im veering off topic a bit) and a miscer made a great point that its probably better for the average person to be strong and physically fit rather than good and BJJ. Average person cannot fit and its probably more useful to just be stronger than other people than more technical.
This is all from a self defense standpoint of course.
Example
Donald J Trump is the legitimate President of the United States.

Derrick Lewis is a BJJ blue belt. Not an expert, but enough to incorporate it into his game to defend against it. We didn’t see much of it but Ngannou displayed some nice wrestling last night.
I do agree that BJJ has been marketed into something it really isn’t though. It has chubby middle managers thinking they’re Jason Bourne. It’s no accident that there wasn’t a wrestler up against Royce in the first ufc events, or that the sumo went up against a dangerous striker before getting a chance at him either. The whole thing as carefully planned advert for Gracie BJJ. But be that as it may, it is an incredible martial art. Who in the UFC, excluding wrestlers, doesn’t at least know a little bit of it, out of pure necessity?Alba Gu Bràth

And let’s be completely honest here. Anyone who got sold the lie they will turn into Jason Bourne with enough training normally gets that illusion squeezed and smashed out of them very quickly at any real gym.
Anyone with a grain of intelligence wouldn’t stick around a McDojo for longer then a week (no idea why op thought training at a mcdojo steamrolling cream puffs for months was a good idea)

That’s exactly what I’ve been saying for a while now. There really aren’t any wrestling rooms/clinics that you can go to outside of a high school or college wrestling mat. There are no belts in wrestling you can achieve and I don’t think you could incorporate a belt system in wrestling if you tried. It’s just too dependent on physicality and explosiveness. So the lack of earning the next belt would hinder a wrestling room from making money. But i still love the idea and wonder if they’d work out if you tried opening up a wrestling room with a monthly fee. It would probably be mostly has-beens like me who miss the sport and wanna continue it to stay in shape. I wrestled in freestyle and greco roman tournaments by myself in the offseason. Felt good showing up to the mat with no coaches in your corner and then beating the guy who has his coaches, family, and a bunch of his friends/relatives watching. Damn it where did the time go?
