Dubai convict arrested in Thane

Thane, Mar 27 (UNI) The MBVV police on Friday arrested a 50 year old convict in Dubai in connection with a attack on a old lady at Mira Road the police said Saturday.

The DCP Crime MBVV Dr. Mahesh Patil said that it was in the broad day light the old lady Mazlennisa Shermohammad Ansari, 67, resident of a housing complex in the township was attacked with hammer on her head and robbed her ornaments valued at Rs. 1,50,000. Two unidentified persons had come to the flat enquiring for tenements on rent and one of them waited outside and the other entered the house and attacked the lady and looted the belongings. The Mira Road police had registered an offence under section 394 rw 34 of the IPC and the hunt was on the accused persons.

The Crime branch police who worked under PI Aviraj Kurhade worked on technical inputs and intelligence zeroed on the accused Rashid Shakil Khan, 50 of Pathanwadi of Malad Mumbai and arrested him on Friday within 24 hours of the crime.

The interrogation of the arrested accused revealed that he had a different modus operandi wherein he moved from place to place with the help of a real estate agent and did rekhee of the flats. They enquire of the availability of the flats on rent and target only those where the security had not not recorded their entry.

One such flat was the one occupied by the victim old lady whose son was a doctor. Knowing very well that the son will be away in the noon the accused went to the flat at around 11.00 a.m. on Thursday and attacked the old lady and decamped with the valuables.

The further probe revealed that the accused had earlier cheated job seekers promising them jobs in Siberia. He was also convicted two years back in a theft case at Dubai the police said.

The accused has also revealed that he was involved in the cheating case at Maldives the police said. The police are presently verifying the facts it was stated.

ACP Crime Ramchandra Deshmukh, said that offences of theft of motor cycles have been registered against the accused in Dongri police station and the police have seized one two wheeler stolen worth Rs. 40,000 stolen by him from Mira Road in yet another offence.
The local police are probing further into the crime it was stated.
