
Coronavirus India Live Updates: As cases continue to surge across Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray asked officials to prepare a plan for implementation of a lockdown which will have a minimum impact on the economy, an official statement informed. “There should not be any kind of confusion among the people once a lockdown is announced,” the CM was quoted as saying. This comes after the health department informed Thackeray that “people were not following Covid-appropriate behaviour and there seems to be a casual approach towards home isolation”.
Earlier in the day, official data showed that over 470 children below the age of 10 have been infected with Covid-19, since the beginning of this month in Bengaluru. According to some experts, unlike in the past, children are now vulnerable because they are more exposed to outdoor activities, functions and gatherings, as also schools are reopening for a certain age group, which was not the case earlier due to lockdowns.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said more than 24 crore tests for coronavirus have been conducted across India. The cumulative Positivity Rate remained below 5 per cent, the Health Ministry added. Concerns for the state of Maharashtra increased as it recorded the highest positivity rate among all the states. Maharashtra recorded a 22.78 per cent positivity rate, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.
India reported 62,714 new cases of coronavirus infections on Saturday. This is the highest single day rise in India this year. In the total number of cases that India recorded on Saturday, Maharashtra alone reported 35,726 new cases. With 3,162 cases, Chhattisgarh reported more Coronavirus cases than Punjab. The active cases in India rise to more than 4.86 lakh. In India, 312 people succumbed to the virus on Saturday, it is the highest since December 25.

Police conducted a raid at controversial Walking Street Night Club in Phase XI late Saturday night and rounded up youths who were partying in the club despite the night curfew. Police booked the owner of the night club and the organisers of the party.
The police received information about the night party at the club on Saturday, following which police parties led by Deputy SP (City-2) Deep Kamal conducted a raid around 1.30 am and found that the party was going on, and liquor and hookah were also being served to the youth present there. Four more deaths were reported in Mohali district due to Covid-19 infection on Sunday, taking the tally of fatalities to 423. As many as 287 positive Covid-19 cases were reported too, increasing the total number to 25,880 with 3,301 active cases.
Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said that 211 patients recovered from the infection. He added that a total of 21,156 patients have recovered from the infection. Read More
PANCHKULA REPORTED the most Covid cases in a single day since the beginning of pandemic on Sunday, with as many as 257 people testing positive. This also marked the third continuous day which recorded more than 200 cases since the district battled its first covid peak in September last year. Meanwhile no covid related death was reported.

Chandigarh on Sunday reported 296 new cases, the highest single-day figure this year, taking the total tally of cases to 26,194. The city also reported three deaths which pushed the toll to 377.
A 68-year-old resident of Sector 25, suffering from chronic liver disease, passed away at GMSH-16. A 54-year-old man from Sector 14, a case of acute respiratory distress syndrome and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, succumbed to the disease at PGI, while a 64-year-old man from Sector 12, a case of diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease, also died at PGI. Fewer people in the Muslim-dominated areas of Ahmedabad city have turned up for Covid-19 vaccination despite awareness campaigns by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
According to AMC records, the civic body has inoculated over 3.2 lakh people till Saturday. Of the total, 28,383 (8.84 per cent) were vaccinated in the southwest zone, 29,201 (9.1 pc) in east zone and 38,944 persons (12 pc) in central zone. The Mumbai Police issue a curfew order under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and says it will register an FIR against any gathering of more than 5 persons who are seen in any public places between 8 pm and 7 am till April 15. The order has been issued by Shivaji Rathod, Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner (operations).
Delhi reported over 1,800 coronavirus cases on Sunday, the highest in around three-and-half months, while the positivity rate rose to 2.35 per cent, the Health Department said. Nine more people succumbed to the disease, taking the toll to 11,006, it said.
The 1,881 new infections pushed the tally to 6,57,715, while over 6.39 lakh patients have recovered from the virus. This is the highest number of cases since December 13 when 1,984 people tested positive for the virus, according to official data. The city had recorded 1,558 cases on Saturday, 1,534 cases on Friday, 1,515 cases on Thursday, 1,254 cases on Wednesday and 1,101 cases on Tuesday — the first time since December 24 that the number of cases crossed the 1,000 mark. The Delhi Police on Sunday said patrolling will be intensified during Holi celebrations and strict action will be taken against those who do not follow coronavirus guidelines issued by Delhi Disaster Management Authority.
Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases, the DDMA had, on Tuesday, ordered that there would be no public celebrations in the national capital during upcoming festivals such as Holi and Navaratri. Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said patrolling will be intensified during Holi. "Pickets will be placed by the district police in their respective areas. The patrolling will be increased during the festival. Police will focus on those who are involved in drunken driving and action will be taken against them. (PTI)

Andhra Pradesh reported 1,005 fresh novel coronavirus cases on Sunday, the highest single-day rise after November 26, pushing the cumulative count up to 8,98,815. The state now has 5,394 active cases, the highest number since the 5,259 on December 9.
A health department bulletin said 324 patients had recovered and two more succumbed to the infection in the state in 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday. The total recoveries have now touched 8,86,216 and the toll was 7,205, it said. (PTI)

Actor Vikrant Massey on Sunday said he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is under self quarantine. Massey, 33, took to Instagram and asked those who came in contact with him to also get tested for the virus. The "Mirzapur" star wrote that he contracted the virus despite following necessary precautions while shooting. (PTI)

Odisha's Covid-19 tally climbed up to 3,40,194 on Sunday as 290 more people, including 10 students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Bhubaneswar, tested positive for the virus, an official said. Of the new cases, 171 were reported from quarantine centres and 119 were detected during contact tracing. The coastal state has been recording over 200 fresh cases for four consecutive days, starting from March 25. (PTI)
