Nagpur, Mar 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Sunday said a retired judge of high court will conduct a probe into the allegations of corruption against him levelled by Ex- Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
Deshmukh, while speaking to mediapersons at Nagpur airport, said a retired High Court judge will conduct a probe into the allegations of corruption against him levelled by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh and added that the truth will come out after an investigation into the matter.
The ex-Mumbai top cop, Mr Singh, on March 20, had written an eight-page letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray claiming that home minister Anil Deshmukh wanted police officers to extort Rs 100 crore monthly from bars, hotels and other establishments in Mumbai.
The incident had rocked the Maharashtra government and the opposition party BJP had demanded an in-depth inquiry into the matter and had also sought resignation of Deshmukh from his post.
To this, Deshmukh on Sunday told media that he had asked Chief Minister Thackeray to initiate an inquiry into the allegations made against him by Param Bir Singh.
And the chief minister has decided that a retired judge of high court will conduct a probe into the allegations against me, Deshmukh said.
