ICC Chief Executive Manu Sawhney likely to be sacked; fails to appear before disciplinary committee

Embattled Chief Executive of International Cricket Council (ICC) Manu Sawhney did not appear at an internal disciplinary hearing to probe charges against him of ‘abrasive behaviour’.

These allegations came to light when an audit was conducted by PriceWaterHouse Coopers into the internal workings of ICC and it found the Chief Executive guilty of misconduct. Following this, the organisation sent Sawhney on indefinite leave as a large number of employees working in the organisation also testified to his wrongful conduct.

ICC Meeting: ICC may act on ‘soft signal’ after BCCI raises issue, ‘umpire’s call’ likely to stay

In all likelihood, the board of ICC is likely to relieve him of his position and expel him from the organisation. News agency PTI quoted an unnamed source, a member of the board, saying that Sawhney’s position has become untenable.

“Manu hasn’t appeared for his hearing before the disciplinary committee of ICC. He is within his legal rights and has exercised that. The board will now decide his fate. But, yes he has little or no support in that board room,” the official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Jay Shah raises issue of ‘Soft Signal’ at CEC meet

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has raised his cricket board’s objection about the Umpires Soft Signal which has created a fair amount of confusion during the India-England T20I series recently.

India captain Virat Kohli has already expressed his apprehensions about the Umpires Call and soft signal during his media interactions. “The BCCI secretary, during the CEC meet, has spoken about what their team feels about the Soft Signal.”

Manu Sawhney threatened to take World Cup away from India

While Manu Sawhney has a few sympathisers within the board, majority of the influential cricket boards want his ouster.

Manu Sawhney was earlier on leave after an internal investigation allegedly found him to be “abrasive” in his behaviour towards the employees of the organisation.

That he had time and again threatened to take the World Cup away from India, wanted a bidding process to decide on hosting ICC tournaments, besides flagship events every year, have gone against him.
