Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has become the best place among the Indian universities in the prestigious Nature Index for 2020-2021. UoH is 18th overall among all institutions this year, the university said on Friday.
“The nature index functions as an indication of high quality research in the natural and physical sciences, including chemistry, life sciences, earth and environmental sciences, and it is indeed a proud moment for the UoH, an Institute of Eminence, to continue to occupy the number one of the universities in successive years. Although our competition goes with the established specialized research institutes and the IITs, as a multidisciplinary university, we are doing remarkably well. We must work hard to improve our ranks, ”said Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH.
‘In order to receive additional funding in the IoE mandate, we must be present in the institutions that achieve the best positions, and therefore we must compare our production with the 100 best performers worldwide, that’s what we plan to do, in accordance with the Government of India’s clear instructions, ”he added.
The research outputs for UoH published between 1 December 2019 and 30 November 2020, followed by the Nature Index, are being considered for ranking. Chemistry and physical sciences were evaluated in the field. The UoH received a score of 54 and a share of 14.72.
A score of one is awarded to an institution if one or more authors come from the institution. Share is a fraction that takes into account the percentage of authors of the institution and the number of affiliated institutions per article. The maximum combined share for any article is one.
There are 237 Indian institutions in the latest version of the Nature Index.
