Manoj Parab, the chief of the  Revolutionary  Goans, on  Friday,   said the decision of the government to cancel the state-level  Shigmo parades due to the increase in  COVID cases, is  biased, and an attempt to end the  Goan art
and culture.

Addressing the media at  Arlem office, Parab  questioned the  Chief Minister Pramod  Sawant,  Art and  Culture Minister  Govind Gaude, and  Tourism Minister,  Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar as to why only  Shigmo celebration is cancelled.

“Carnival was held,  New Year parties were allowed, casinos are open despite the  COVID cases reported. The  government is trying to end the  Goan culture. Youths toil hard, put in a lot of efforts in the preparation for Shigmo. I strongly feel that the  government has done injustice to  Hindu community,” he charged.

He further said that  the Revolutionary  Goans is on the mission of `migrant check’ across the state, and  would be seeking cancellation of the  bogus migrant voters’ cards
in the state.

“We have collected all the data of the migrants. Once we go door-to-door,  we will verify it, and subsequently apply for cancellation,” he informed.

Siddhesh  Bhagat, former  sarpanch of  Aquem and  present panch also questioned the  government as to why Shigmo celebration was cancelled.

He said, “If the government intends to adopt  COVID-controlling measures, it should be applicable to all  and not only for selective celebrations.”
