Imphal, Mar 27 (UNI) Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday appealed to the people to celebrate the upcoming Yaoshang Festival by following all the SOP's laid down to stop the spread of COVID 19.
Addressing the media here at the CM Secretariat he said the rapid increase of COVID cases in many states are alarming and during the last few days slight increase in COVID cases has also been reported in Manipur.
As Yaoshang is celebrated for about five days beginning on Sunday there is need to make people aware of the looming danger of the pandemic. Saving lives is important and the government will take up all steps to ensure that the pandemic is controlled, he added. There is no immediate plan for a lock down but the government will take all necessary decisions to save lives, he added.
Manipur is a small state and the number of active cases which had declined has now shot up again, hence during the Yaoshang festival people should not organise Thabal Chongba ( dance on moon lit night ), musical concerts, etc he added. All cultural programmes presented at Shri Shri Govindajee temple will be restricted and only ten persons can perform at one time.
He appealed to the public to refrain from unnecessary gatherings which could become a factor for the rapid spread of the disease in the state.
He recalled that the state government had also issued orders to regulate the organising of Yaoshang sports with strict observance of Standard Operating Procedures. Regarding torch lighting relay, he added that a maximum of 20 persons for each club shall be allowed to carry the torch till Kangla and only 5 persons shall be allowed inside Kangla for the torch relay.
Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare V Vumlunmang stated that vaccination drive for COVID-19 in the state is in progress and around 65% of health workers had been vaccinated so far. The testing of passengers arriving from eight states, where the number of positive cases is going up alarmingly, is being done at the Imphal Airport, he added.
Meanwhile in the past twenty-four hours, three new COVID19 positive cases were reported in Imphal West RAT (3). They were from Imphal East (1), Bishnupur (1) and Senapati (1). The cumulative number of deaths in the state from COVID currently stands at 374. The total number of discharged persons was 5. They were from CAPF (2) and JNIMS (3).
The cumulative number of positive cases was 29,376 (General Population — 25,934 and Central Security Personnel — 3,442). The cumulative number of recovered cases was 28,944 (General Population — 25,513 and
Central Security Personnel — 3,431). The number of active cases was 58 (General Population — 51 and Central Security Personnel — 7). The recovery rate was 98.52 %.
Air passengers who travelled to the state on March, 27 by Indigo flight 6E-2019 in rows 9-14, 22-28 and by Air Asia Flight 15 in rows 12-18 were asked to inform the Common Covid Control Room 1800343818 or
respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO).
On Saturday 868 people were vaccinated and the cumulative number was 85,103.
