Two deaths reported in poll-bound Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 27 (UNI) After an unnatural death was reported at Keshiary in West Medinipur early on Saturday, another body of a TMC supporter was recovered from a water body at Parui in West Bengal's Birbhum, even as the first phase of polling for 30 assembly seats was still underway in five Jangalmahal districts.
A report said about 77.79 per cent of voters have pressed the voting machines upto 1700 hrs and one more hour left for the voters to exercise their franchise in the districts of Purulia, West and East Medinipur, Jhargram and Bankura.
A BJP supporter was found lynched at Keshiary in West Medinipur early today and party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said they have lodged a protest with the poll body to investigate the murder.
Lately, a TMC supporter was today found floating in the pond at Parui in Birbhum and police recovered the corpse and sent it for post mortem.
While in Kesiary the BJP alleged it was TMC behind the murder, in Birbhum, the TMC blamed the BJP for the killing.
However, in both cases, TMC and BJP denied their involvement.
As the report of poll percentage at 5 PM showed a record 77. 79 per cent in five districts' 30 seats, East Medinipur had high 82,51 pc, West Medinipur had 80,12 pc, Jhargram had 90,55, Purulia had 77,07 and 79,90 per cent for Bankura.
Polling booths opened at 0700 hrs and will close at 1800 hrs.
Polling has been extended by an hour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home minister Amit Shah, state chief minister Mamata Banerjee and state governor Jagdeep Dhankar urged people to vote in large numbers.
"Today, Phase 1 of the West Bengal Assembly elections begin. I would request all those who are voters in the seat polling today to exercise their franchise in record numbers," said PM Modi.
