ISSF World Cup: Vijay spring, Tejaswini shoots gold

New Delhi: India, Vijayveer Sidhu and Tejaswini, claimed the gold medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol mixed team competition to extend the country’s dominant run in the ISSF World Cup here on Saturday.

In an Indian gold medal match, Sidhu and Tejaswini comfortably beat the duo Gurpreet Singh and Ashok Abhidnya Patil 9-1 on the Dr Karni Singh shooting range.

In Qualifying 2, Gurpreet and Patil finished at the top with a total score of 370, while 16-year-old Tejaswani and 18-year-old Sidhu teamed 368.

On Friday, Sidhu won the individual silver medal in the 25-speed firearm event ahead of Anish Bhanwala and Gurpreet.

However, Indian pair Kynan Chenai and Shreyasi Singh missed a podium finish when they finished fourth in the final for the mixed team of the prestigious tournament.

The home team lost 35-38 to Turkey, Safiye Sariturk and Yavuz Ilnam.

Kynan, who finished fourth in the individual men’s drop on Friday, started badly but improved as the mixed final progressed, even as Shreyasi also missed a few strokes while finding the target on other occasions.

The Indian duo scored 141 in the qualifiers to qualify in fourth place for the bronze medal match behind Sariturk and Ilnam (143), who made up his partner’s color outing with his consistent performance.

The Italian team of Alessia Iezzi and Valerio Grazini finished the qualifiers with 145, while the Slovak pair Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova and Adrian Drobny were second with 143.
In the final, Iezzi and Grazini prevailed over Slovakian Stefecekova and Drobny 39-36 on the shotgun range.
