Mah: Aurangabad, Nanded witness highest Covid cases in Marathwada region

Aurangabad, Mar 26 (UNI) Marathwada region of Maharashtra comprising of eight districts is witnessing a huge surge in covid cases and fatalities as Aurangabad and Nanded are the worst affected.

Both the districts have recorded the highest number of daily COVID cases in the top ten cities across the country.



Out of top ten cities, nine were alone from Maharashtra state.



Meanwhile, Maharashtra, which is the worst pandemic-hit state of the country reported 35,000 cases and 111 fatalities while Marathwada region recorded over 4500 cases and 44 fatalities in the past day.



Aurangabad district guardian minister Subhash Desai on Thursday visited the region and held a review meeting with concerned officials and discussed measures to prevent covid spread. In his press conference, he stated that though there is no complete lockout in Aurangabad at present.

"Due to rapid increase in the number of patients, health department has suggested a complete lockdown, but a decision will be taken soon in this regard," he added.





"However, we are trying to figure out measures on how to prevent corona infection without a complete lockdown, with restrictions, or with a weekend lockdown," he further added.

He also suggested that the number of COVID test centers in Aurangabad should be increased to 500, as well as the number of tests to 10,000 per day, and all institutions should be equipped with additional treatment facilities in proportion to the growing number of patients.



Desai also appealed to the citizens to abide by the covid norms like maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.

Meanwhile, administration have banned the public celebrations of Holi and Dhulivandana in the district.



Report from Nanded stated that the curfew imposed their is getting spontaneous response from the citizens. Except for essential services in the district, all markets and establishments were closed yesterday.

Meanwhile, the lockdown in Nanded district should be lifted, demanded the Lockdown Atrocities Action Committee to Collector Dr Vipin Itankar.



The citizens of the district also responded well to the curfew imposed in Parbhani district. All the traders, big and small, had their shops closed yesterday.

Meanwhile, a demand has been made to the District Collector on behalf of the District Chamber of Commerce and Industry to allow business establishments in Parbhani district to operate from from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs.

The federation submitted a statement of this demand to the district collector. Traders have said that they will strictly abide by the rules laid down by the administration.



Curfew was imposed in Beed since midnight of March 25 onwards to April 4.



Night curfew was in progress in Aurangabad, Osmanabad district also.



Jalna district collector is also going to impose three days curfew in the district, while an official announcement expected on Friday.
