UP panchayat elections 2021: Polling in four phases starting April 15, counting on May 2

LUCKNOW: The state election commission on Friday announced the notification for the upcoming panchayat elections, talked about as a semi final before the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections due next year.
According to state election commissioner Manoj Kumar, the elections for the three-tier rural local bodies would be conducted in four phases — first phase polling on 15th April, second phase on 19th April, third phase on 26th April and fourth phase on 29th April.
Counting of votes and declaration of result will take place on May 2.
The announcement came on the day when the Supreme Court was to here the case pertaining to reservation of seats for the panchayat.
Earlier, the Allahabad high court had asked the state government to get the panchayat elections conducted before April 30.
Only recently, the panchayati raj department had rolled out a formal guidelines for reservation of seats in rural local bodies.
Elections would be conducted in 58,189 gram panchayats, 826 kshetra panchayats and 75 zila panchayats.
