Amazon denies ‘urine bottle’ stories, faces 'evidence' from workers on Twitter

Amazon took to Twitter to deny allegations that its workers do not get time to take bathroom breaks and are often forced to pee in soda or water bottles. The work pressure at warehouses, delivery units and other support divisions are claimed to be so much that workers have now started to talk about openly on social media.

Defending these claims of exploitative working conditions, Amazon said, “You don’t really believe the peeing in bottles thing, do you? If that were true, nobody would work for us.” Amazon said this in a reply to a tweet by Rep. Mark Pocan in which he said, “Paying workers $15/hr doesn't make you a "progressive workplace" when you union-bust & make workers urinate in water bottles.”

But soon after Amazon’s tweet, workers, journalists and people aware of the claimed work conditions hit back by posting pictures of urine bottles as evidence.


Buzzfeed reporter Ken Bensinger posted photos of ‘instruction sheets’ from Amazon which demanded drivers take their trash with them from the delivery van after their shift ends and interestingly, the rules mentioned that they need to dispose of urine bottles too.


The situation is so bad that workers are claiming that they are getting Urinary tract infections due to zero bathroom breaks. One worker claimed, “For the record I've never peed anywhere , on the job, besides in the back of my van in a coffee cup. It's the only reason I buy a hit drink every morning before shift. They know. They don't care.”
