Bharat Bandh sees mixed response in UP

Lucknow, Mar 26 (UNI) The Bharat Bandh of farmers in protest against the new agricultural law had a mixed effect in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
In Meerut, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) staged a dharna at more than six places while creating a jam including the Delhi Haridwar National Highway and the Karnal Highway, which led to a lot of hardship especially for vehicles passing through the highways. Along with this, long queues of vehicles started lining on both sides of the road. The impact of the bandh was not generally seen in the city and all the markets opened up as before.
BKU Meerut district president Manoj Tyagi said that the agitation will continue till the three agricultural laws are withdrawn. He said that today, activists of BKU created a jam at six major places in Meerut at Paratapur, Daurala, Mawana, Jani, Jangethi and Dabathuwa. The officials of the BKU surrounded the outer areas of the city from this morning itself to take command of the jam. Some of these office-bearers were posted on the Ghazipur border while others were given the command of Meerut.
Apart from this, the office-bearers of the Kisan Union were spotted sitting on the main roads in Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Bijnore, Shamli, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar districts. Road traffic was partially affected by this.
Apart from West UP, the bandh in other areas of the state generally proved ineffective. According to the report received from Gonda, the bandh did not show any effect in the district at present. No organization or political party protested or submitted a memorandum. In view of the bandh, the police administration was ready to deal with every situation at sensitive places.
