'Ally McBeal' Reboot in the Works, Calista Flockhart in Talks to Return!
Ally McBeal is coming back!
The ’90s legal drama is set to make a limited series revival, and is now in the early stages of development, TVLine reported Friday (March 26).
Even more exciting: lead actress Calista Flockhart is being eyed to reprise her titular role!
The series’ creator, David E. Kelley, would also be involved in the sequel series an an executive producer, but he previously hinted that a woman should be running the show.
“I’d be open to the idea of Ally McBeal being done again, but I don’t think it should be done by me. If it were going to be done, it really should be done by a woman. If it’s going to be new, it should be new and different. And I did it: 100 hours,” he said back in 2018.
Ally McBeal premiered on Fox in 1997 and became a big hit, and would star names like Jane Krakowski, Portia de Rossi and Lucy Liu, and later on, Robert Downey Jr.
A streamer or network has not yet been attached to the project, but it would be likely that it would go to Hulu given it’s under the same umbrella as the show’s studio, Twentieth Television. It’s also home to all five seasons of the show currently.
