Three soldiers dead, five injured as their vehicle overturns, catches fire in Rajasthan

JAIPUR:  In a tragic incident, three Indian Army soldiers were burnt alive and five others seriously injured when their Gypsy overturned and caught fire in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district in the early hours of Thursday.

The eight soldiers were travelling from Suratgarh when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle which then overturned and caught fire. Three soldiers burnt to death at the scene, while five injured soldiers were admitted in a hospital in Suratgarh. 

Local people rushed to the accident site after seeing flames rising. Though the villagers rescued five soldiers, three others could not be saved. The exact reason for the tragedy is not yet clear.  The army has initiated an investigation. The local police said a case of accident has been registered. 

Army spokesperson Amitabh Sharma said, “The soldiers were killed in the accident between 1 am and 2 am on Thursday. The fire spread so fast that three soldiers were burnt alive on the spot while five 
others were rushed to Suratgarh hospital.”
