Pegatron will complete its factory site expansions in Vietnam and India in the second half of 2021 and begin an expansion at a plant in North America in 2021, according to company CEO SJ Liao.
Liao did not reveal who the new North America capacity will be serving, but some market observers believe the expansion is meant to cater to Tesla's ew factory in the state of Texas. Tesla's Texas plant is currently under construction and is the company's second production site in the US.
Although the electric vehicle (EV) business segment only has limited contribution to Pegatron's revenues at the moment, it is expected to bring double-digit growths every year for the next 5-10 years, Liao noted.
Electric bicycles and scooters are also business opportunities that Pegatron is also keenly eyeing, Liao said.
Pegatron's capex for 2021 is expected to reach between US$350-400 million, mainly for equipment purchases. Pegatron is also considering raising the expenses if clients ask for more capacity, Liao stated.
Despite the bright prospects of its major product lines in 2021, Pegatron may still see component shortages undermine its results, Liao added.
