Newnan, Georgia Tornado Update as Storm Wreaks Havoc

A Tornado Emergency was issued for Newnan and other parts of Georgia following severe storms, the National Weather Service (NWS) said, as a tornado hit the area early Friday morning.

The severe weather caused widespread damage across parts of the state, including Peachtree City and Coweta County, where trees were downed and houses were heavily damaged or destroyed.

As of Friday morning, at least 18,507 in Georgia were reported to be without power, according to PowerOutage.US.

The City of Georgia tweeted Thursday: "The city experienced heavy damage in and around the historic downtown area due to tonight's weather. Please note that both the city and county crews are in route and working on scene to clear impacted areas. Please remain safe in your homes and take shelter. Stay safe!"

A Tornado Watch is in place across parts of Georgia through Thursday morning, the NWS said.
