BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started conducting Covid-19 tests of inmates of government and private hostels in the city from Thursday after some campuses reported cases.
The civic body has collected more than 350 samples samples from the hostels of three educational institutions - Trident Institute, Allen Institute and ODM Public School.
It will continue the exercise of testing the hostel inmates of private and government institutions to check the spread of Covid-19 infection.
Altogether 1,050 samples were taken for Covid-19 testing on Friday during its special drive held at some places and institutions across the city.
It has also collected samples from CRPF battalion, Kendriya Vidyalaya, railway station and airport.
“We are conducting random Covid tests of different people, including students from hostels and other offices, as part of our special drive. We will continue this drive and increase the testing numbers gradually,” said BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary.
Khurda district has reported 33 Covid cases, the state’s highest in the last 24 hours. Bhubaneswar that comes under Khurda district has reported 24 cases, including 21 local contact cases during the same period. The total number of active Covid-19 cases of the capital city were 130 on Thursday.
