
Coronavirus Lockdown India Latest Update, Corona Cases in India Live: India continues to report an increasing number of daily Covid-19 cases. India on Friday reported 59,118 new COVID19 cases, 32,987 recoveries, and 257 deaths in the last 24 hours. Yesterday also, India had reported more than 50,000 cases.
Five states — Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat — have registered a sharp rise in daily COVID-19 cases, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday as India recorded 59,118 new infections, the highest single-day rise so far this year. After touching its lowest mark in mid-February, India’s active COVID-19 caseload is on a steady rise and has breached the 4-lakh mark again after around three-and-half months.
The lowest daily increase of 8,635 COVID-19 cases was reported on February 2 this year. The active caseload was at its lowest at 1,35,926 on February 12. As of date, there are 4.21 lakh active cases in the country, a net rise of 25,874 infections in a day.
“Three states — Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab — together account for 73.64 per cent of the total active cases in the country,” the health ministry said. As for daily COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra reported the highest 35,952 infections in a day, followed by 2,661 in Punjab and 2,523 in Karnataka.
According to the ministry, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Gujarat collectively account for 80 per cent of the new COVID-19 cases. Ten states — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Haryana and Rajasthan — are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new cases, it highlighted.
India’s cumulative recoveries stand at 1,12,64,637 with 32,987 people recuperating in a day. Besides, 257 deaths were reported in a day. Six states account for 78.6 per cent of the new deaths with Maharashtra reporting 111 fatalities and Punjab 43, the health ministry said.
Fourteen states and Union Territories have not reported any COVID-19 deaths in a day. These are Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, over 5.5 crore vaccine doses have been administered through 9,01,887 sessions throughout the country according to a provisional report till 7 am on Friday. These include 80,34,547 healthcare and 85,99,981 frontline workers who have received the first dose, 51,04,398 healthcare and 33,98,570 frontline workers who have been administered the second dose. Also, 55,99,772 beneficiaries aged more than 45 years with specific comorbidities and 2,47,67,172 senior citizens have been given the first dose of vaccine.
On March 25, day 69 of the vaccination drive, more than 23 lakh vaccine doses were given, of which 21,54,934 beneficiaries were vaccinated across 40,595 sessions for 1st dose and 2,03,797 healthcare and frontline workers received the second dose of vaccine. Ten states — Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra — account for nearly 70 per cent of the vaccine doses given in a day.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the Mumbai hospital fire has increased to eleven, according to Officials. Earlier, PTI had reported that two COVID-19 patients died and 70 others were evacuated after a fire broke out at a hospital in Mumbai, PTI quoted a fire brigade official as saying on Friday. The fire broke out at the Dreams Mall Sunrise Hospital in Bhandup area shortly after midnight, the official said.
An upsurge in coronavirus cases in Mumbai is being witnessed. On Thursday (March 25), the city logged 5,504 new infections, the highest daily count since the pandemic began.

The COVID-19 graph continued its upward trend in Tamil Nadu on Friday. The state logged 1,971 cases and nine fatalities, pushing the caseload to 8,75,190 and the toll to 12,650, the Health Department said. The number of cases crossed the 1,000-mark on March 19 after over an 80-day gap, when it touched 1,087. Recoveries today were lesser with 1,131 patients being discharged, taking the cumulative number to 8,51,222 leaving 11,318 active cases, a bulletin said.
Alarmed over rising cases of coronavirus, the Madhya Pradesh government on Friday decided to impose Sunday lockdown in the cities of Vidisha, Ujjain, Gwalior, Narsinghpur and Saunsar. The Sunday lockdown is already in force in Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Betul, Chhindwara, Ratlam and Khargone. Madhya Pradesh on Friday reported 2,091 new COVID-19 cases, taking its case tally to 2,84,265. Nine fatalities increased the death toll to 3,937. The decision to extend Sunday restrictions to five more cities was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said a public relations department official. (PTI)
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 210 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, including 57 travellers, taking the infection tally to 1,29,413, while one more fatality pushed the death toll in the union territory to 1,984, officials said. Forty-one of the new cases were from the Jammu division and 169 from the Kashmir division, they said. The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 98 new cases, including 41 travellers, followed by 33 in Baramulla district and 30 in Jammu district. Four districts did not report any fresh case, while 12 others detected new cases in single digits. (PTI)
The Goa government on Friday issued guidelines for Holi, Easter, Eid and Shab-e-Barat in view of the rise in COVID-19 cases in some of its neighbouring states, officials said. An order issued by Under Secretary (Health) Gautami Parmekar said that local restrictions have been imposed in the celebration of festivals like Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr as contained in the SOP of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Gujarat reported 2,190 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the highest daily rise so far, which took its caseload to 2,96,320, the health department said. For the first time since the pandemic began, the one- day rise in cases crossed the 2,000-mark in the state. Six deaths during the day pushed the toll to 4,479, officials said . A total of 1,422 people were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the total recovery count to 2,81,707, which is 95.07 per cent of the total caseload. (PTI)

Nagaland's COVID-19 tally rose to 12,229 on Friday as one more person tested positive for the infection, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said. The fresh case was reported in Dimapur, he said. Nagaland now has five active cases, while 11,979 people have recovered from the disease, 91 patients have succumbed to the infection and 154 have migrated to other states to date, Health Director Dr Denis Hangsing said. Nagaland has so far tested over 1.35 lakh samples for COVID-19, he said. (PTI)
People should celebrate Holi in a simple manner considering the rise in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and crowding should be avoided, the state government said on Friday. Holi will be celebrated on March 28 and Rang Panchami falls a day later. "The festival should be celebrated in a simple manner, observing social distancing norms and without coming together in any way given the increasing spread of COVID-19. Rang Panchami too should be celebrated in a simple manner," the government said in a statement. (PTI)
Karnataka logged 2,566 new COVID-19 cases and 13 related fatalities, taking the caseload to 9.81 lakh and the toll to 12,484, the Health department said on Friday. This is the fourth consecutive day that the state has reported over 2,000 fresh cases. On Thursday, it registered 2,523. Bengaluru Urban continued to top the list of cases, with 1,490 infections. Three coronavirus-related deaths and 853 positive cases were reported in Rajasthan on Friday, taking the total fatalities to 2,811 and the caseload to 3,28,743 respectively, a daily health bulletin showed. The deaths occurred in Pratapgarh, Rajsamand and Ajmer (one each) while the maximum of fresh cases were reported in Jaipur where 140 persons tested positive for the virus. Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Sirohi recorded 124, 89, 79 and 76 cases, respectively, while the rest of the cases were reported from other districts, according to the health bulletin. (PTI)
Madhya Pradesh on Friday reported 2,091 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 2,84,265, while nine deaths increased the toll to 3,937, a health official said. As many as 1,048 people were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, taking the count of recoveries in Madhya Pradesh to 2,68,290, he added. Amid a surge, only one out of 52 districts in the state did not report a new case during the day. (PTI)
Night curfew will be imposed in entire Maharashtra from March 28 in view of alarming rise in coronavirus cases, an official statement said on Friday. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered night curfew from Sunday onwards, it said. Thackeray also warned of stricter restrictions if the people did not observe COVID-19 safety protocol, it said. The Madras High Court on Friday directed the EC authorities to instruct their subordinates to strictly enforce the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) prescribed by the Health department, in view of the recentspurt in covid-19 cases in poll-bound Tamil Nadu. The Election Commission should ensure that the norm of mandatory distance is maintained and masks strictly used while canvassing and polling. The governments in the State and the Centre should also extend necessary assistance for the implementation of the same, the first bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy said. The Rajasthan government will now give an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50 lakh to the kin of ration dealers and accredited journalists if they die due to COVID-19 in the state. The Finance Department issued an order in this regard on Thursday. The personnel of police, jail and health departments, and other frontline workers were already covered so far. (PTI)
The recent surge in coronavirus cases in the country is being closely monitored and measures, including strict enforcement of COVID protocols and creating micro-containment zones, will be taken to keep a check the contagion, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Friday. Kerala witnessed a slight dip in daily infections with 1,825 new COVID-19 cases recorded on Friday, while 1,917 people recovered from the disease, the state government said. The active cases stood at 24,274 and the toll mounted to 4,553 with 14 more deaths, Health minister K K Shailaja said in a release. The caseload has now gone up to 11,13,722 and recoveries to 10,84,585. Kerala had recorded 1,989 fresh COVID-19 cases yesterday. (PTI)
The Centre on Friday asked states and union territories to regulate crowd during upcoming festivals like Holi, Easter and Eid in view of rising cases of COVID-19. In a communication to chief secretaries of all states and union territories (UTs), Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said the country is passing through a critical juncture as COVID-19 cases and deaths have been on the rise. Bhalla said after assessing the situation, guidelines for effective control of COVID-19 were issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 23 and it has been emphasised that states and UTs should strictly enforce the 'test-track-treat' protocol. The upward spiral of coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh continued, with the gross inching towards the nine lakh mark, as 984 positives were added afresh on Friday. This was the highest increase in cases in a day after four months, which took the overall to 8,96,863 from a total of 1.49 crore tests, at an overall rate of 6.01 per cent. A health department bulletin said 306 COVID-19 patients got cured and two succumbed in 24 hours ending 9 am on Friday. The active caseload grew to 4,145 after a total of 8,85,515 recoveries and 7,203 deaths so far. (PTI)
The European Medicines Agency has approved new manufacturing sites for coronavirus vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca, in a move that could significantly boost Europe's supply of the shots. In a statement published on Friday, the European Union's medicines regulator said it had approved sites in the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland for the COVID-19 vaccines made by the companies. The new approvals come amid the 27-nation bloc's struggles to ramp up COVID-19 vaccination and repeated delivery delays and manufacturing problems. The EMA said it had approved a factory in Leiden, the Netherlands, to make the active substance for AstraZeneca's vaccine, bringing the number of such licensed sites to four. (AP)

Uttar Pradesh recorded over 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases after a period of three months, while the death toll rose to 8,779 on Friday with six more fatalities, an official said. At present, there are 5,824 active cases, of which 3,383 are under home isolation, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said. A total of 5,96,698 patients have recovered from the infection in the state so far, he said. With 1,032 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, the infection tally in UP mounted to 6,11,301. The officer said anti-coronavirus vaccination drive for all above 45 years will start from April 1. "Till now, over 54 lakh people have taken COVID-19 vaccine in the state ," he said. (PTI)
The state of Uttar Pradesh has recorded the highest number of Coronavirus cases in three months with the state recording a total 1032 new cases on Friday. Six more Coronavirus-related casualties were reported in the state which has taken death toll in the state to 8779.
In the wake of surge in Coronavirus cases, the Kangra district authorities have banned the gatherings of people inlcuding the gatherings for the festival of Holi. In another related development, the district administration has issued new Covid-19 rules under which the migrant labourers entering the district have to remain under self-quarantine for a period of seven days.
A hotel in Rishikesh has been shut by authorities for a period of 48 hours after 16 of its employees tested positive for Coronavirus, news agency PTI reported. The local authorities said that the hotel is being sanitised and people who may have come in contact with the hotel staff are being traced.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has assured of strict action in the case of Mumbai hospital fire which led to the death of 10 patients. Thackeray also apologised to the families of the victims promising strict against the alleged negligence on the part of hospital authorities, ANI reported.
