The Proteas women on Thursday received the Recognition of Sport Excellence Award from the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa.

The side arrived in South Africa on Thursday afternoon after wrapping up a successful white-ball tour to India.

The Proteas outclassed the hosts as they clinched a 4-1 ODI series win, handing them their third successive ODI series victory and saw them climb to second in the ICC Women's ODI rankings.

South Africa then capped off their stunning summer by sealing a 2-1 T20 series win.

Along with receiving a certificate, the Proteas women were given R500 000 cash incentive for their historic win in India.

"This is a wonderful and most deserved award to our ladies who continue to go from strength to strength and serve as a source of inspiration and pride to all of us,"  said CSA Acting Chief Executive Pholetsi Moseki.

"They thoroughly deserve every accolade that has come their away and they are playing a major role in fulfilling our vision of excellence and accessibility to all, of which gender equality is an important component.

"Our heartfelt congratulations go to our head coach Hilton Moreeng, our captain, Dane van Niekerk, her two most able stand-ins, Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt, and all our players, management and support staff. We also express our appreciation to Minister Mthethwa for this recognition."

Other recipients of the award were given to Australian Open wheelchair finalist Kgothatso Montjane, MotoGP star Brad Binder, cyclists Greg Minnaar and Ashley Moolman Pasio.

They all received a certificate with a medal accompanied by R20 000 cash incentive.
