A major fire broke out at a private COVID-19 hospital in Mumbai's Bhandup area on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. Several patients were evacuated as the smoke spread into Sunrise Hospital located on the third floor of the mall, which is a dedicated COVID-19 hospital. According to Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, the cause of the fire is being ascertained and at least 70 patients, including those infected with COVID-19, have been shifted to another hospital. Meanwhile, with 5,504 new coronavirus cases, Mumbai reported the highest one-day rise in COVID-19 cases on the second consecutive day. The death toll rose by 14 on Thursday to reach 11,620, while the recovery count stood at 3,33,603 after 2,281 people were discharged from hospitals. In another development, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh filed a petition in Bombay High Court challenging his transfer and seeking CBI investigation in the alleged corrupt malpractices of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
62 unaccounted bullets found during search of Sachin Vaze’s home: NIA
MUMBAI: During a search of suspended API Sachin Vaze’s home, 62 unaccounted bullets were found, the National Investigation Agency told the special court on Thursday. Bhandup Dreams Mall Fire: Sunrise Hospital claims there was no casualty due to fire
There was a fire in first floor of Dreams mall, Bhandup and the smoke reached upto the sunrise hospital located at the top floor. All fire alarms beeped and hence all patients were safely evacuated due to the smoke to the fire refuge area .There were 2 dead bodies ( due to covid ) which were also evacuated. There was no casualty due to fire. All patients were promptly shifted to jumbo covid centre ( and some to other private hospitals) We are grateful to mumbai fire brigade and to mumbai police for helping us save lives.This hospital was started in exceptional circumstances of covid last year and has helped in saving many patients from covid deaths .It is functioning with all due compliances like fire licence nursing home licence etc .The hospital staff did a fantastic job in safely evacuating patients on wheel chairs and beds to the refuge areas and by following the fire drills.

Mumbai: With close to 3,000 new Covid-19 cases reported in Mulund in March, a scramble for beds in private hospitals has begun. With BMC shutting down a Covid centre at Mithaghar municipal school and the one set up at Mulund octroi naka never got started, there is a shortage of beds, said local BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha.BMC officials said there were enough beds at Richardson & Cruddas jumbo centre and they would soon restart the Mithaghar centre. At least two people were killed after a fire broke out at a private COVID-19 hospital in Mumbai's Bhandup area in the early hours of Friday.According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prashant Kadam, around 22 fire tenders reached the hospital to douse the flames. As many as 76 COVID-19 patients were admitted to the hospital, which is located on the third floor of a mall.

35,952 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, a new record
Maharashtra recorded 35,952 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, the highest one-day rise since the pandemic began. Mumbai city also witnessed a record rise in cases during the day, health officials said. It took the caseload in the state to 26,00,833. The state has added over one lakh cases in the last four days. With 111 fatalities reported on Thursday, death toll reached 53,795.
