COIMBATORE: As many as 21,250 government officials and teachers in Coimbatore district on Friday underwent training on managing polling booths and cross-checking names. The training programme was held in 10 centres in all the 10 assembly constituencies in the district.
After the training, the officials and teachers were given postal ballots. They were given an option of posting their ballot in sealed envelopes immediately. They were also allowed to take the postal ballots home and post them a few days later.
A training centre (Nirmala College for Women) had not received postal ballot slips, envelopes and documents for Thondamuthur constituency until 1 pm. Many officials left the centre without receiving them.
The participants at most centres did not follow Covid-19 precautions like wearing of masks and social distancing.
