Ghaziabad: The district administration is gearing up to vaccinate people above 45 years of age against
Covid-19 from April 1. It plans to introduce more
private centres to accommodate recipients. Vaccination is being carried out at 48 government and 36 private centres at present.
About six lakh people over 45 years of age will become eligible for vaccination from April 1. “While specific directions from the state government are awaited, we have begun preparations on our part and are in the process of revamping our existing infrastructure to deal with the influx of recipients from April 1,”
Ghaziabad district magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey said.
“We plan to add at least four more private vaccination centres. The second most important step we are taking is to identify the population above the age of 45 years. Recipients may either get themselves registered or can also walk in with their credentials to any centre. As for monthly targets, we will soon get a directive from the state government,” the DM further said.
Ghaziabad has so far managed to cover a little over 66% of the total population that are above 60 years of age or aged between 45 and 59 years with comorbidities in March. “Clearing the backlog in addition to inoculating another six lakh more recipients is going to be a herculean task for us,” an official from the district administration said.
