'The Kominsky Method' Season 3: Everything We Know About the Final Season
The Kominsky Method Season 3 may be the last ever season of the cult Netflix show, but it looks set to pack plenty of tears and laughs into its final six episodes, which will be released very soon. One cast member may have left the show, but they will be replaced by a three-time former co-star of Michael Douglas, whose character Sandy will be tied up in a plot that sees his ex-wife return to LA.
When is The Kominsky Method Season 3 out?
The release date for the final season of The Kominsky Method will be Friday, May 28, when all episodes will drop onto Netflix across the world. Per TV Line, the final season will have six episodes, two less than the previous two seasons (both of which are streaming now on Netflix).
Who stars in The Kominsky Method Season 3?
Returning from the previous seasons are Oscar-winner Michael Douglas as neurotic acting coach Sandy, Sarah Baker as his daughter Mindy and Mad About You star Paul Reiser, who joined the cast in Season 2 as Mindy's older boyfriend Martin.
Lisa Edelstein, Graham Rogers and siblings Emily and Haley Joel Osment are also set to return.
Not returning for Season 3, however, is Alan Arkin, who for the first two seasons co-led the Netflix series as Sandy's long-suffering manager Norman. The actor, an Oscar-winner for Little Miss Sunshine, announced he was exiting the show in September 2020. Per his spokespeople, this decision was made after he filmed Season 2, prior to the coronavirus pandemic that has delayed the filming and release of the upcoming episodes.
Arkin may be out, but another iconic figure from Hollywood past is taking his place. After cameoing at the end of Season 2 as Sandy's ex wife Roz, Oscar nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner Kathleen Turner has joined the cast as a series regular.
Turner appearing is a neat piece of meta-casting for the show. Turner is playing Douglas' ex-wife after the pair previously played a couple locked in a bitter divorce in The War of the Roses. Prior to that, they had starred together in action movies Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile. Turner's other roles include Peggy Sue Got Married, Body Heat and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where she was the uncredited voice of Jessica Rabbit.
What is The Kominsky Method Season 3 about?
The synopsis for Season 3 of the show reads, "Sandy has to navigate what aging looks like without his longtime friend Norman by his side. Life only becomes more complicated with the arrival of Sandy's ex-wife Roz. The pair's famously volatile relationship is further inflamed when she comes to L.A. to spend time with their daughter Mindy and her boyfriend Martin.
"This season of The Kominsky Method deals with money, death, love, murder, and dreams coming true. In other words, the usual."
The show has not yet revealed how it will deal with Arkin's departure, and no trailer has yet been released that gives any clues, though one is expected in the coming weeks.
