Mangaluru: All India Catholic Union wants home minister to act on vigilante groups

MANGALURU: The National President, All India Catholic Union (AICU), has implored Union home minister Amit Shah to assure the minority communities in the country that vigilante groups will not be allowed a free hand in terrorizing helpless people who cannot defend themselves.
Lancy D Cunha, National President, AICU, in a letter to Shah, stated they expect Centre to caution police forces of the states, particularly those in the control of the Centre, that they will invite severe disciplinary action if seen abetting such crimes or remaining bystanders when self-appointed vigilantes take the law in their own hands.
Pointing out that such targeted hate amounting to violence and gender harassment was extremely alarming and of great concern, D Cunha hoped the assurance during his campaign in Kerala was to the entire community that has been shocked by the vigilante persecution of religious women.
