IPL 2021: RCB’s mega-buy Glenn Maxwell to join the IPL franchise by next week- Royal Challengers Bangalore’s new recruit Glenn Maxwell is set to join the IPL franchise by next week. He is currently undergoing rest after opting to rest for the remainder of the domestic season by Cricketer Victoria. He had last featured in T20Is against New Zealand last month.

They have a big winter coming up, (Maxwell has) got an IPL and then some Australian responsibilities as well,” Victoria Head coach Rogers told SEN Radio.

All the players need to undergo a mandatory 7-day quarantine. RCB will play their opening match against Mumbai Indians on April 9.

Maxwell was bought by RCB for a hefty amount of Rs 14.25 crore in IPL auctions last month. His presence is expected to bolster the batting and bowling department of RCB. He can play a crucial role in the middle-order and finish important matches in the league stage.

On Wednesday, RCB’s Head of Cricket Operations, Mike Hesson confirmed that the IPL franchise will begin its preparatory camp for the IPL 2021 season on March 29 in Chennai ahead of their opening match against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 9.

Many RCB players have already begun their quarantine in Chennai and will join the camp following negative COVID-19 RT-PCR tests.

Not all the players will be available for the opening fixture. “We won’t have our full contingent of overseas players available for the first game,” said Hesson in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of RCB.

“We have got eight good overseas options, we are making sure that we are firing and functioning for the entire tournament not just trying to push guys for the first game,” he added.
