PRAYAGRAJ (UP): A man killed his wife and later hanged himself in Balapur village under the limits of Ghurpur police station in the trans-Yamuna pocket of UP's Prayagraj district late on Wednesday night.
Ironically, the accused had dialled 112 at around 1:48am and told policemen on duty that he was going to end his life after killing wife.
After tracing the location of the caller, a team of Ghurpur police spotted a man identified as Shrawan Kumar (30) hanging from a tree near Balapur village pond while the body of the woman (wife) identified as Pushpa (28) was lying near the scrubs.
The couple was a resident of Kirda village in Chhattisgarh.
Superintendent of police (Trans Yanuna) Saurabh Dixit told TOI that the accused husband, who committed suicide by hanging himself with a tree, had dialled 112 at around 1:48am and told policemen on duty that he had killed his wife and now going to end his life.
The caller also told policemen that they ( woman’s relatives) would not spare him once they came to know that he had killed his wife.
The police control room after receiving the call immediately asked concerned Ghurpur police to find out the location of the caller and initiate corrective measures.
The police kept on searching the area and later found the body of man hanging from a tree near Balapur village pond on Thursday morning.
The SP, meanwhile, said that domestic dispute, as per initial police investigation, had led to the incident.
He also said that the couple — along with other relatives including the woman's father and sister, all residents of Chattisgarh — were working on a local brick kiln center for the past two months.
Police said that the couple had four children.
Woman’s father Shiv Prasad told police that Shrawan was addicted to liquor and he used to have fights with his wife.
Her father also told police that Shrwan had earlier threatened the family members of dire consequences if they dared him to stop from drinking.
