You might be among those who have been rooting for a downvote or dislike button on Twitter for a very long time. But unfortunately, Twitter had never bothered to fulfill these requests or even consider them for that matter. However, something has now popped up that suggests Twitter is pretty much interested in trying out the latter, at least.

Reportedly, Twitter has been taking a survey and looking for users’ views on the emoji reactions. Interestingly, the emoji reactions set also includes emoji for downvote/disagree/dislike. This suggests that Twitter might not want to put an entirely new button for ‘Dislike’ to its UI but it is very much interested in bringing a method, at least, using which users can give a “negative” react to a particular tweet.

A few users who took this survey have shared the screenshots that show what the reaction set is all about. The screenshots show Twitter is considering emoji responses for your every reaction – “Like,” “Funny,” “Interesting,” “Sad,” “Awesome,” “Support,” and “Angry.”

In the survey, Twitter asked its users to select one out of the two reaction sets that they think they are more likely to use. For instance, for the reaction "Support," there are two sets given. In one set there is an emoji with face and open hands (hugging emoji) and in another set, there is a raised hands emoji.

Furthermore, Twitter has proposed more variations to determine users’ choices. So, this clearly tells that Twitter is doing kind of user experience research so to determine what emojis the users are more likely to use when reacting to a tweet.

One variation also reveals that Twitter is considering putting an emoji reaction for “Dislike” or “Disagree.” It is testing various options for the same, thumbs down emoji, a red emoji with a 'No' sign on it, and a red down arrow emoji. This might not the one that users have been longing for but this way Twitter can definitely solve the purpose.

We assume the reactions are going to work similarly to reactions available for Facebook posts.

In one of the survey pages, Twitter also asks users how would they like the reaction emojis to display below the tweet. In addition to this, Twitter also wants to know should the negative reaction counts also be visible.

Reportedly, Twitter has this to say about the survey (via Techcrunch) –

The work it’s doing in the space of reactions is exploratory — it’s only running this survey now because the company is thinking about ways people could add more nuance to the conversations they’re having, and how, by doing so, readers would be able to better understand the additional context around those conversations. Plus, Twitter notes that the new emoji reactions would not replace the “heart;” they’re additive.

So, let’s see when these emoji reactions set actually come for everyone.
