Agartala, Mar 25 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb claimed in the assembly that crime against women in the state has been reduced by 18.41 per cent last year as compared to 2019 but the government is not at all satisfied as it wants to bring it down to zero.
Deb asserted that extensive measures have been taken to curb the menace of crime against women that included the mobilisation of Emergency Response Support System, smart policing, strengthening security patrolling and beat policing across the state.
Apart from that several steps have been taken to motivate police personnel to respond quickly against such crimes.
Responding to calling attention notice of CPI-M MLA and former minister Bijita Nath, the Chief Minister claimed there has been a steady decline of crimes against women over the years.
The rape incidents were reduced to 15.4%, molestation reduced to 21.3%, kidnapping of women recorded 20.3% while dowry-related death of women registered at 39.5%, other atrocities of women recorded at 21.2% and incidences of eve-teasing registered at 40 % last year.
The state government has made it clear to the law enforcing agencies that there should be no slackening in the suppression of facts regarding crime on women besides, mandating police for speedy filing of charge sheets as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
He said that recruitment of female police volunteers and a pilot project to contain the crime on women in West Tripura and Gomati districts have been undertaken to facilitate the victims and to ensure exemplary punishment to the accused in a time-bound manner.
