Chandigarh: India’s Northern Region constitutes 30.8 percent of the country’s total area and 31 percent of the country’s population, contributing over 26 percent to the national GDP. This region has vast land banks and a significant pool of highly skilled and unskilled labor. Keeping in view the strong potential of the Northern Region, ASSOCHAM has reformulated its Northern Regional Development Council and State Councils for the year 2021-22.
The re-formulation of the Northern region has been done for the Northern Region Development Council and state/UT councils of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu, and Kashmir. ASSOCHAM Northern Region Development Council has been continuously engaging with the Northern States Government to create a conducive environment for accelerating the pace of growth and development and attracting sizable investments. One of the cornerstones of this council’s agenda is facilitating investments.
International Tractors Limited (Sonalika), Vice Chairman, Mr. Amrit Sagar Mittal & Mr. Suneet Kochhar, Director, Khanna Paper Mills took the charge of ASSOCHAM’s Chairman & Co-Chairman for Northern Region Development Council.
Mr. Vijay Sharma, Director, Jindal Stainless & Mr. Jyoti Prakash Gadia, Managing Director, Resurgent India, have been appointed as ASSOCHAM’s Chairman & Co-Chairman for Haryana State Development Council.
Mr. Kulwin Seehra, Executive Director, GNA Axles Ltd & Mr. Rishi Raj Sharma, Director, Proxima Steel Forge have been appointed as ASSOCHAM’s Chairman & Co-Chairman for Punjab State Development Council.
Mr. Jitender Sodhi, Chairman & Managing Director, Ayush Group of Companies India has been appointed as ASSOCHAM’s Chairman for Himachal Pradesh State Development Council.
Mr. Manik Batra, Director, Batra Group& Dr. MA Alim, Proprietor, Packaging Design Company have been appointed as ASSOCHAM’s Chairman & Co-Chairman for J&K Development Council.
“Northern Region is the largest region of the country in terms of area, population and contributes significantly to country‘s GDP. Hence it becomes important that for India to grow beyond 8 percent or to a double-digit figure in near future, the northern states have to grow in tandem.
The Northern Region of India has numerous unique strengths such as high economic growth rate, an abundance of natural resources, availability of skilled labor, growing infrastructure, continuous government support, rising consumer demand backed by increasing income, which makes it a front runner in the country‘s growth story.” Added Mr. Mittal.
