Chennai, Mar 25 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
has arrested a woman Enforcement Officer of Employees Provident
Fund Organisation (EPFO), Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu and two others
in an alleged bribery case of Rs four lakh.
A case was registered against G Loganayaki, Enforcement Officer
and two private persons--Suresh of M/s Bhargavi Associates,
Chennai and another private person, Ramesh Babu.
It was alleged that the Enforcement Officer (Inspector) of EPFO,
was demanding undue advantage from a private person of Chennai
based private firm and his employee for settling the issues related
with violation of EPFO Act by Tiruppur-based private firm.
The CBI intercepted both private persons when they were coming
out of the Loganayaki's chamber after paying the alleged bribe
money to her.
During the search, unaccounted cash of about Rs four lakh was
recovered from her office chamber.
Searches were also conducted at five places in Tiruppur, Coimbatore
and Chennai, which yielded Rs.6.10 lakh cash.
Some incriminating documents were also recovered during the searches
following which Loganayaki and the two private persons were arrested.
All the arrested were produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases,
Coimbatore.
Apart from this, further searches led to recovery of a sum of Rs three lakh
in cash from the chamber of another official and the matter is also being
looked into.
Further investigation is continuing.
