Woman shot to death in Fresno, suspect in custody

Police say a man shot the mother of his children and Action News saw them make an arrest just a little while later.

- This morning at about 6:41 we received a call of a gunshot victim here in the 3500 block of East Lamona. Officers arrived and contacted some family members who were outside, and immediately just started asking questions, find out what went on, and made entry into the residence where they found the deceased female.

Obviously we're in the middle of our investigation now. It appears to be some kind of a domestic violence incident, and we have a lot more work to do this morning. We have four detectives out here. We have our domestic violence unit also involved with helping to do research, and find out exactly what kind of history the family here had.

CCTV footage captured the victim as she walked down an alleyway. She checks over her shoulder as a man walks behind her but keeps at distance and out of sight. He is then shown pulling a canvas shopping bag on wheels and reaches into his coat pocket to produce a dark pillowcase. He abandons his trolley and jogs up behind the woman, who is six months’ pregnant, and forces the pillowcase over her head and face. The man unleashes a flurry of punches to the woman’s stomach and a final punch to her face that knocks the pillowcase from her head. The woman then flees as the attacker makes off down a main road. The Telegraph understands police are looking at whether the apparently random attack could be classed as a hate crime.

However Freddie was euthanised on Monday at the South Essex Wildlife Hospital in Tilbury. The RSPCA has been made aware of the incident, and police have now said that they plan to speak to the owner of the dog which attacked Freddie. "Police are investigating the death of a seal after it was injured by a dog on the River Thames near Hammersmith Bridge," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. "Officers attended the location at approximately 12:39 hours on Sunday 21 March along with colleagues from the London Fire Brigade. "They recovered the young pup from the river bank and it was taken to a rescue centre for treatment, but had to be put down later, due to injuries sustained in the incident. "Officers are looking to identify witnesses and to speak to the owner of the dog involved. Enquiries continue. The RSPCA has been informed." Duncan Phillips, a photographer who witnessed the attack, said that the dog was "going hell for leather" as it ran across the beach and attacked the seal.
