Government schools in Telangana get facelift, says Sabitha

Hyderabad: Government schools across the state are ready to get a facelift with the state government allocating Rs 4,000 million in the budget. Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said this in the state assembly here on Wednesday, saying infrastructure will be developed in the government’s educational institutions, which is equivalent to the corporate institutions by 2000 million this year.

The Minister said that a committee of four members had been set up to improve guidelines for the effective utilization of the amount of Rs 2000, to improve members’ infrastructure in government educational institutions. She is with the Minister of Municipal Administration, KT Rama Rao, the Minister of Finance, T Harish Rao, and the Minister of Panchayat Raj, E Dayakar Rao, members of the committee to draw up the guidelines.

“The intention of Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is to ensure better facilities in government education institutions,” she said, adding that the necessary funds have been allocated for buildings, and also to improve facilities in universities. A committee of inquiry set up to investigate the nomination of vice-chancellors in universities has already completed meetings and a report has also been submitted to the government. The appointment process will be completed soon, the minister said.

The university also holds online classes with the services of more than 2,645 teaching staff. For skills development among students, various vocational courses have been offered, except that 40 short-term courses are offered. The state government provided quality education to SC, ST, BC and minority students through Gurukul educational institutions.

Sabitha said the prime minister was according to priority to improve facilities in schools in tribal areas. She said that construction of library buildings had taken place at a cost of R50 million in 23 districts and that books worth R 2 million had been purchased to help students prepare for the competitive exams. She said as many as 7,000 teaching posts were filled and textbooks were given to university students, who spent ten million.

She said that 80 percent of the curriculum has already been completed through digital classes, and that workloads have been arranged to help students who have completed vocational courses. The Minister said that efforts are being made to introduce new courses, along with the improvement of toilets and other facilities in the institutions.
