Amid "insider vs outsider" debate at its peak in Bengal in this poll season ahead of 2021 Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday recited the lines from Indian National Anthem ‘Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravida, Utkala, Banga’ and made it clear that TMC supremo's ‘BJP is outsider’ claim doesn’t hold any water as everyone is in Indian soil.
During his speech, Modi said, “In the National Anthem, Tagore had mentioned a few places, which directly proves that “everyone residing here are Indians and no one is an outsider. Didi cannot call BJP an outsider”.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was prompt to retort. She reiterated that the people from other states trying to provoke trouble before elections are outsiders.

Mamata Banerjee said that the people sent from other states to provoke violence and trouble in Bengal from various adjoining states before polls are the outsiders. “These “paan chewing” and “gutka spitting” men from Uttar Pradesh and other North Indian states are real outsiders. They sport tilak and come from states like Uttar Pradesh to foment trouble in West Bengal. They can hardly speak Bengali and have an artificial tone,” Mamata Banerjee said.
Contrary to this, while addressing a public meeting at Contai, PM Narendra Modi said from the rally that "no Indian is an outsider in West Bengal and a son of the soil will become Bengal CM".
Notably, referring to the same lines, Mamata Banerjee from a public rally at Bankura claimed that Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore is the pride of Bengal and also alleged that the BJP leaders are trying to waste the ‘glory’ of West Bengal.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed three public rallies in Bishnupur and Bankura.
