Maharashtra has reported 28,699 new COVID-19 cases, 13,165 recoveries, and 132 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total count of cases has gone up to 25,33,026 including 2,30,641 active cases and 22,47,495 recoveries.The COVID-19 tally in Mumbai rose by 3,512 to touch 3,69,426, while the city also saw eight deaths and 1,203 people getting discharged. The toll in the country's financial capital now stands at 11,600 and the recovery count is 3,29,234, leaving it with 27,672 active cases. Neighbouring Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli areas too are reporting a surge in new cases with 700 plus people testing positive for the virus. Wheres, in crucial developments, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis met the Union Home Secretary in Delhi and demanded CBI probe into a purported state intelligence department report on 'corruption' in police transfers in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil also met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at the latter's official residence `Varsha'.
SC to hear Param Bir Singh's plea challenging his transfer as Mumbai police chief
The Supreme Court will hear the plea of former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh on Wednesday seeking CBI investigation in the alleged corrupt malpractices of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul will hear the plea of Singh, who was moved out as Mumbai Police Commissioner in wake of the Antilia bomb scare case.
