Hyderabad: To improve sanitation and ensure effective garbage collection, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is adding another 650 Swachh Auto Tippers (SAT) and expanding the reach of the home-to-door garbage collection across the city. As part of the Swachh City initiative, the civilian body will provide these 650 SATs to all 30 circles, in addition to the existing 2,500 vehicles.
K&T Minister Rama Rao, Mayor G Vijayalakshmi and GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar will launch 325 of these vehicles at Necklace Road on Thursday. According to the GHMC, the allocation of cars is purely based on the number of uncovered areas in each circle and is transparent. The acquisition of vehicles takes place according to driver-cum-owner scheme in which 10 percent of the cost of the vehicle is borne by the beneficiary. The remaining costs are borne by GHMC by taking financing from Canara Bank at a rate of 8 per cent per annum for 72 months.
The vehicles are supplied by the car manufacturer Private Limited, selected at Rs 6,86,701 per vehicle. The total cost of the project is 44.63 million. Each car will occupy 600 households each day and these vehicles will pick up isolated garbage and transport it to the transfer stations.
