Govt’s Mobile Seva App Store aims to reduce dependency on tech giants like ‘Google and Apple’!

Mobile Seva App Store encourages developers across the country to showcase their talent on a platform and it has already received 965 applications.

India’s smartphone industry has gained heavy traction in recent years and it is predicted to reach a whopping 820 million by the year 2022. With such a huge market, the Indian government is gearing up for a stiff competition to the monopoly enjoyed by big tech companies such as Google and Apple, and has come up with a homegrown app store called MobileSeva App Store.

IT Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, in Rajya Sabha said that this is going to give the much-needed ‘boost’ for the indigenous app store. The recent move will reportedly relax the dependency on the tech giants and it will provide the necessary momentum to India’s “Make In India” initiative.

Prasad in Rajya Sabha on March 18, addressed the Digital India movement and spoke about the Mobile Seva App in detail. He informed that the App Store boasts 8.65 crore total downloads with 6,940 app developers on board as of now, for whom hosting is free of cost.

India’s start-up giant Paytm had popularly launched its own mini store with the support of PhonePe, RazorPay, Dream11, and IndiaMART with the aim to challenge the monopoly of the Google Play Store.

The launch of the MobileSeva App Store will encourage developers across the country to showcase their talent on the platform and reports suggest that there are more than 965 applications received on Mobile Seva Appstore.

Prasad also said that the government-owned app store must host all the apps during the initial stages without any costs. However, the center is asking private applications to become a part of its indigenous app store as well.

According to the government’s recent announcement, more applications are expected to enlist themselves that will help the platform to flourish. Meanwhile, the government has also provided private applications (that already exist on other app stores) an opportunity and free will to become a part of the government-owned mobile application store.
