Thaw in Indo-Pak relations will improve situation: PDP

Srinagar, Mar 24 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed hope that the recent developments involving Indo-Pak relations could usher in the times of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here Wednesday evening, PDP General Secretary (Organization) Dr Mehboob Beg said the steps-with the right intention- by the neighboring countries with regard to the improvement of relations and a clear focus on J&K could go a long way in resumption of sustainable peace process in the region by paving way to address the issue of J&K.

“The ceasefire declared on February 25, 2021 which holds till date is a huge sigh of relief for the people of J&K in general and the people of Karnah, Tangdhar, Gurez, Uri, Kathua and Poonch in particular as they directly bear the brunt of the hostilities between India and Pakistan,” Dr Beg said.

“The events after the ceasefire also inspire hope as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only wished the Pakistani Prime Minister the best of health but also in his letter, underlined the need for cordial relations between the two countries besides having wished the very best to the people of Pakistan,” he added.

“Overtures like these, especially from a PM with such a huge mandate have the potential to go a long way in fostering a friendly environment between the two countries and the same should directly benefit the people of J&K,” he said.

Dr Beg further expressed hope that the excellent work done by BJP stalwart, Atal Behari Vajpayee and General Parvez Musharaf which was carried forward by Manmohan Singh and Musharaf will now be taken to its logical conclusion by the present dispensation in the interest of the people of the two countries.
