Telangana fulfilling Gandhi’s Gram Swarajya dream: Errabelli

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said on Wednesday that the state government is realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of ‘Gram Swarajya’ by strengthening local bodies and creating basic infrastructure for towns to prosper.

He said nearly 90 percent of work such as crematoria, landfills, nurseries, Palle Prakruthi Vanams (nature parks) and tractors with water tankers and trolleys were completed in 12,769 towns spread across the state.

In response to a question during Question Time in the Assembly on Wednesday, Dayakar Rao said about 4,061 new grams of panchayats were created after the formation of the state and their number was increased to a total of 12,769 for effective management of rural areas. Of these, the state government tackled 12,742 Vaikuntadhamams, 12,735 dumps, 12,756 nurseries and other facilities. The government provided 12,769 tractors with water tankers and trolleys for the benefit of all the grams of panchayats.

‘The construction of 8 001 cemeteries and 12 301 landfills was completed in the state with an expenditure of 1,554,76 million and 318,99 million respectively. The remaining works are in various stages of completion and will be ready by 30 April this year, ”the minister said. He requested all the MLAs to review the scope of the works completed in the towns within their respective constituencies. He said permits are being issued for the installation of boreholes in crematoria where there is a water shortage.

Dayakar Rao said about 10.0 trees were planted by the nurseries in the town and that 86 percent of them were protected until they survived. About $ 237 million was spent in 2019-20 on vegetable leaf development in towns. The officials set a target to plant 23.54 crown seedlings in 2020-21, which is almost complete.

The minister said that the Union government had waved praise and handed over awards for rural development under different categories, but that it did not turn into funds. ‘We get so many scarves and awards that we can not bear the burden. While this is a proud moment for the state, it would be better if these praises and awards turned into funds. The center does not release any extra funds, despite the recognition of our achievement, ”he said.

He wondered if the BJP MLAs and MPs in the state could use their influence on the center and get funds to the state rather than criticize the state government.
